Happy New Year!
I hope you had a wonderful Christmas, before we start the New Year this is a time when we all tend to pause for reflection. Looking back, I’m pleased to say that the past 12 months have, in general, been very positive for The Rug & Carpet Studio.
The move to the ground floor of the Melford Antiques, Interior & Lifestyle Centre has been a great success. Our Rug Festival in my garden in Bildeston last May was extraordinary, eccentric and great fun. (To be repeated next May!)
All the projects Pat and I have worked on with you had been rewarding and it has been a great pleasure finding forever homes for lots of beautiful rugs and carpets.
Also, the two Christmas markets we took part in were hugely successful and thanks to your support large sums of money were raised for local charities.
Rugs & Christianity
Handmade rugs came to the west as rare and valuable items and were often incorporated within commissioned paintings enhancing the dignity and status of the patron and owner.
“Madonna with the Saints John the Baptist and Donatus” by Andrea del Verrocchio, circa 1475-1483
Displayed in the Cathedral of Pistoia, Italy, Madonna with the Saints John the Baptist and Donatus portrays an extraordinary religious scene which is highlighted by its Oriental rug. Produced during the Italian Renaissance by the painter Andrea del Verrocchio during the late 15th century, the painting shows a unique union between both East and West.

Once again, I’d like to wish you a Happy New Year and I look forward to sharing news and stories with you in 2026.
Best wishes
