You may think it is too warm to think about thick wool rugs and carpets, but these are ideal conditions for the dreaded carpet moth to appear. Please keep an eye out for them, as the damage they cause can be extensive and expensive to repair.
The adult moth is light fawn in colour and about 7mm long. They flutter around the house looking for quiet, dark places to lay their eggs, so check dark corners and under furniture for small creamy-yellow larva. These larva cause the damage by eating the wool pile of your rugs.

Vacuum all your rugs and carpets thoroughly on both sides, then empty the vacuum cleaner outside your home. I recommend Rug Remedy’s no-nonsense pheromone traps and moth killer spray to help keep the moth population under control. www.rugremedy.com
Pheromone traps are excellent for catching flying moths. It is a clever idea to write the date on each trap when you open it, so you can monitor the extent of any moth problem. The Carpet Moth Killer spray does exactly what it says: it kills moths.
If you discover active moths or larva in your rugs, I suggest contacting Kerri and Hannah at Heritage Thread in Lavenham, who offer a full treatment and repair service. Visit thier website at www.heritagethread.co.uk or call 01787 – 736307

Aldeburgh Golf Club — The Smoke Room
Earlier this year, I was thrilled to be asked by Aldeburgh based interior designer Alexandra Langdon www.alexandralangdon.co.uk to work with her on the wonderful project of redesigning the Smoke Room at Aldeburgh Golf Club. She has transformed a rather tired, bland room into a joyous English country club space, perfect for meetings and functions worthy of such a historic golf club. I supplied two gorgeous rugs and helped rehome the tired, worn old Indian carpet that very nearly went in the bin.
Thompson Gallery Aldeburgh.
As the Golf Club is a private club, it is not open to non-members. However, you can see another example of Alexandra’s work at the Thompson Gallery in Aldeburgh, www.thompsonsgallery.co.uk where she has created The Modern British Room, currently hosting a wonderful exhibition of beautiful contemporary British art. The room is a stunning backdrop to this collection inviting you to imagine you are at home enjoy your new purchase. I was delighted to be asked to supply the pretty Sultani Rug in the centre of the room.
