I have just spent the most wonderful week in southern Scotland with my husband and 2 dogs. We had beautiful sunshine every day and walked miles in the spectacular countryside. However, the highlight of the trip has to be our visit to Dumfries House. King Charles saved this beautiful house and its impressive collection of Chippendale furniture. It is now the HQ for The King’s Foundation and a centre of learning and training in rural and farming skills including blacksmithing, gardening, stone carving, lime plastering and brick laying and textiles. If you get the opportunity, I would thoroughly recommend a visit.

Now I am fully back in work mode. I’m busy buzzing around the countryside finding beautiful rugs and carpets and taking them to clients’ homes to try in-situ. I love this part of my job. I was never very good at sitting in the shop so now that I have the display within the Melford Antiques & Interiors Centre, which is staffed 7 days a week, I have time to be out and about.
I’m confident that over the 35 years I have been dealing in handmade rugs and carpets, working with many interior designers and homeowners, reading countless magazines and devouring many beautiful books by acclaimed designers and decorators, (Ben Penreath, Robert Kime, Alidad and Ros Byam Shaw immediately string to mind) I have gained an understanding of what is required with the rugs and carpets.

Being in the room gives me the chance to see the character of the building, the function of the room, the personal style and preferences of the owners and discuss the wishes and desires of the client and what they wish to achieve when purchasing a new rug or carpet for their home. I absorb this information, colours and fabrics and then find a refined selection of possibilities to try in the space. I obviously get it right because I have happy clients who often become friends as I revisit their homes many times over the years.
If you would like my help, please do get in touch. We can meet at the Antique Centre if you prefer and make plans. I look forward to hearing from you.
With my very best wishes,
Sara
