This vibrant Kazak has been hand woven by Afghan tribal people in Pakistan. It is based on the traditional Caucasian designs and woven with good quality wool yarns, using natural vegetable dyes. It has a cotton foundation and could work very well under a dining table, in a living room or an open plan kitchen for a pop of colour. Each of our handmade rugs are unique pieces and this new Kazak is a fine example of what is being woven by Afghan tribes today. Originally Kazaks would have been woven with strands of silver and gold to symbolise status. They were placed in churches, palaces and within homes of high class. Not only are rugs used as a floor covering but also hung as pieces of artwork. This is why some rugs still survive to this day and are over a hundred years old. This particular Kazak is brand new and if looked after well, could also last over a hundred years.
