Uzbek Suzani

Suzani is an embroidery on cloth in one piece or more often in several then stitched together. The name Suzani comes from the Persian word for needle which we can translate it as needlework. Often we think of Suzani’s as large decorated covers but there are also some splendid examples of smaller pieces. Chain, satin and buttonhole stitches are the primary stitches used along with extensive use of couching.

The combination of the strong wool and cotton foundations produces  a robust rug with a charming rustic finish.
