Throws & Blankets

Sometimes spelled Mouj or Moudj, these pieces are woven by Kurdish tribes in western central West Asia and very rarely come on the market but when they do, we buy them in the Hamadan bazaar. They are woven as  a very long narrow strip, often cut into five or six strips which are sewn together. Frequently used as blankets, Some very sophisticated brocading techniques can be employed giving the pieces an interesting texture. The colours are bright but more sombre than those used in the Qashqai Jajims and very often they bear an accidental resemblance to plaids, showing how simple looms in different parts of the world will often end up producing similar fabrics.
