We are thrilled to present from 7th October, an exquisite collection of decorative felt rugs, handmade by the talented nomadic artists of Kyrgyzstan. These rugs are a testament to a tradition spanning two and a half thousand years, born in the remote and breathtaking Tien Shan mountains of Central Asia.
The gorgeous rugs, runners and cushions feature a range of pattern and colour combinations, from dazzling and bright to elegant and subtle, and look magnificent in both traditional and contemporary settings.

Join us for a fascinating talk on the art of handmade felt rugs from Kyrgyzstan. Our guest speaker, Tim Moock of Felt, will share his extensive knowledge of felt rug-making with us. Felt has established a fair-trade agreement with nomadic tribes in Kyrgyzstan and is the first company to import these exquisite felted wool rugs, known as Shyrdaks, to the UK.
Shyrdaks are more than just beautifully crafted geometric works of art. Each felt shape represents an item of vocabulary in an ancient language still used by Kyrgyzstan’s nomadic people.
During the talk, you’ll discover the techniques used by skilled artisans to create these amazing rugs and explore the unique designs and patterns that make these rugs so special.
If you would like to attend the talk, please contact Tracy Williamson 01787 882214 or email tracywilliams@rugandcarpetstudio.co.uk stating the number of people attending.
Booking is essential as numbers are limited. The talk is free to attend and will take place in our showroom in Long Melford. Refreshments served.
